Wine News
Salvano Gavi 2008...$14.99
This medium bodied white wine comes from the northwest part of Italy, in
the Gavi area of Piedmont. This Gavi has a nice combination of citrus
and green apple flavors with a nice texture to the wine making it ideal
for a variety of seafood and poultry dishes, or by itself during this
nice hot weather!
O'Reilly's Pinot Noir Oregon 2009...$19.99
Opens with a lovely nose of dried lavender, and candied red fruit, with
a hint of earth and pine. Bright red fed cherries fuse with jammy
raspberry notes carrying through to the soft finish.
Beer News
Southern Tier Crème Brûlée…$8.99/22oz.
By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think
it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a
cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural
disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and
from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and
they respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife
of contention, that survived to represent their deliciously creamy brew.
Dogfish Head Theobroma…$12.99/750ml
This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in
Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink
used by early civilizations to toast special occasions. The discovery of
this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human
consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish
Head’s Theobroma (translated into 'food of the gods') is brewed with
Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs (from their friends at Askinosie
Chocolate), honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). It's
light in color - not what you expect with your typical chocolate beer.
Dogfish Head Namaste…$tbd/750ml
A Belgian-style White made with dried organic orange slices, fresh cut
lemongrass and a bit of coriander. This beer is a great summer quencher.
Namaste was originally brewed at their brewpub in with their friend Leo
from Birra del Borgo in Italy as a tribute to their friends at 3
Fonteinen brewery in Belgium, who had devastating production loss (1/3
of their annual production!) at their brewery in 2009.
